16 maunds of jatka seized in Munshiganj

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive seized 16 maunds of jatka from the Dhaleshwari River in Munshiganj Sadar upazila on Friday. Tipped off, a team from Coast Guard Chandpur station conducted the drive in three launches named MV Siraj-2, MV Prince of Hasan Hossain, MV Mitali and an engine-run trawler and seized 16 maunds of jatka (hilsa fry less than 10 centimetres in length) kept in 10 baskets. The trawler carrying jatka was also seized. The seized hilsa fry were distributed to local orphanages and madrasas. Earlier, 63 maunds of jatka were seized during separate drives from February 1 to March 13 in the district, according to UNB.
