Thursday, 5 March 2015

About 160 kilograms of illegal foreign medicines and 160 gold bars were seized from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the city on Tuesday night and Wednesday, report agencies.
Customs Intelligence officials seized 160 kilograms of illegal foreign medicines from the freight unit at the HSIA on Wednesday.
Director General of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Moinul Khan said the medicines had been brought from Bangkok by Thai Airways.
However, he did not mention when the flight arrived in Dhaka.
The medicines are believed to be of Indian origin and do not meet local standards, said Moinul Khan.
They were brought to the freight unit in violation of the import policy order, he added.
The drugs are mostly for treatment of cholesterol, fertility, heart, blood thinning and pain relief.
The market value of the seized medicines was estimated at Tk 10 million.
Customs officials seized 160 gold bars, weighing about 19 kg at the HSIA Tuesday night.
