163 community clinics not functioning in Brahmanbaria

BRAHMANBARIA, Aug 15: A total of 163 community clinics in Brahmanbaria district are not functioning due to the negligence of the concerned authorities for the last four years.
The clinics were established in December, 2003 at different upazilas of Brahmanbaria district.
Of the total, 59 community clinics were established in Sadar, 15 in Sarail, 29 in Nabinagar, 10 in Nasirnagar, 21 in Kasba, 12 in Akhaura and 17 in Bancharampur upazilas.
World Health Organisation gave the financial assistance and CMMU gave the technical assistance in building the community clinics. The authorities did not operate them properly. As a result, the community clinics became non-functional.
Local people urged the government to reopen the clinics for the greater interest of the people.
