17 JCD, JD activists sued in Barisal

BARISAL, May 22 (UNB): A case was lodged with the senior judicial magistrate's court Thursday against 17 Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal activists in connection with ransacking of Awami League office at Sreepur Bazar under Mehendiganj Upazila on August 15, 2006.
Court sources said Awami League Leader Mazharul Islam lodged the case. According to the complainant, local AL activists arranged a programme to observe the 'Mourning Day' on August 15 when local JCD and JD activists demanded Tk 50,000 as toll from them.
But when they denied paying the fee the activists attacked and ransacked the Sreepur union AL office leaving some party activists injured.
The 17 accused of the case included Nizamul Huq Nayan, Manju Jamaddar of Jubo Dal, Maruf Jamaddar, AL-Amin Jamaddar, Mamun Sheikh, Razzak Sheikh, Sahabuddin Sheikh and Dalim Sheikh of JCD.
Magistrate of the court receiving the case ordered the officer-in-charge of Mehendiganj police station to register the case as a regular criminal case.
