17 LDP men sent to jail in a murder case

CHITTAGONG, May 22: A Chittagong court has sent 17 leaders and activists of LDP including upazila chairman of Chandanaish to jail as they surrendered in a murder case. The lawyers of the accused prayed for their bail but the court of Chittagong Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Farida Yasmeen sent them to jail today. Chandanaish BNP leader and currently elected upazila chairman Abdul Jabbar and 25 others of the political party were accused in the killing of local Chatra League leader Ramij Uddin on May 28, 2001. Ramij was chopped to death in his village in the area. 17 of the accused surrendered to the court today while nine others are absconding. The accused later joined the Liberal Democratic Party of Dr. Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram.
