The government has registered 170 million births until September this year, the Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) has been informed. Local Government Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Syed Ashraful Islam told the JS on Sunday that 16,71,78,312 people have registered their births with the government until September either in writing or online. The data of 11,92,96,078 have been computerised , he said in reply to a parliament question. According to 2011 Bangladesh Census, the country’s population stood at 152.5 million. Going by that, the country’s population seems to have gone up by 15 million in the last four years. Many citizens are yet to register their births. Islam said 70 to 80 thousand on an average were registering their births with the authorities, according to bdnews24.com.
