Wednesday, 3 June 2015

As many as 177 Bangladeshi students have been awarded with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award in 2015. British High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert W Gibson has handed over the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award to the 177 Bangladeshi students in a ceremony. They received the award for social services benefitting the community, a press release said on Wednesday. This is the third time the formal ceremony has been held at the British High Commissioner’s residence. Addressing an audience at the British High Commission, Robert Gibson said it (number of awardees) has grown quickly with now having more than 10,000 having received the awards. Since 1956, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has seen millions of people in over 140 countries and territories from all types of backgrounds engaged in a variety of challenging activities and personal development. In Bangladesh, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation is relatively young having only been set up in August 2008. However, it has grown quickly with the number of awardees climbing to more than 10,000. Last year, over 3,300 students enrolled across all the award levels in 56 educational establishments in six divisions. Gibson said, “The hard work and dedication not just of those being awarded but to all those who volunteer and assist in making it happen is testament to the vision of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award,” the release added.
