Friday, 20 May 2011

Eighteen Bangladeshi workers, who began their journey from Cox's Bazar to Malaysia illegally by sea with high hopes two and half years back and caught by Thai police and eventually landed in jail, have returned home via India Thursday, reports UNB from Benapole. Thailand government formally handed them over to the Indian government after long legal process that took two and half years, leaving their voyage unfinished and dream shattered. Indian police authority handed over the ill-fated workers to the Bangladesh Police Thursday through Benapole checkpost. Bangladesh immigration authority sent them to their respective homes. Sub-inspector of Benapole checkpost police Masud Ali, quoting Deen Mohammad, one of the victims, confirmed the incident. He said Bangladesh government had to settle the issue with the Thai government over a long period.
