18000 pieces Yaba tablets seized, one held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Thursday night arrested an alleged drug trader from city's Uttara and seized around 18,000 pieces of Yaba tablets from his possession, reports UNB. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team comprising members of RAB-1 and department of Narcotics Control, raided a Chinese restaurant in Uttara and arrested drug dealer Abdus Shakur Mahmud (44). The law enforcers searched the bag kept on his lap and found around 18,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, which is a combination of methamphetamine (a powerful and addictive stimulant) and caffeine. This was the second highest number of Yaba recovery by RAB in terms of quantity. Briefing the reporters at RAB headquarters on Friday morning, Director (Media) Commander Sohail said the arrested man gave important information about Yaba trading. Another report adds: Despite close vigilance of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and other law enforcing agencies, several lakhs of stimulating Yaba tablets are entering the country everyday from Myanmar border. Intelligence sources told the news agency that some powerful international criminal and financial networks are controlling drugs supply-chain within Bangladesh.
