19 jail guards dismissed on fraud charge

COMILLA, Oct 22 (UNB): Nineteen jail-guards of Comilla Central Jail and Sylhet Jail were dismissed on charges of fraudulence on Tuesday. Among the punished 12 are of Comilla Central Jail and seven from Sylhet Central Jail. Sources at the headquarters of Chittagong division and Sylhet division prisons which is located in Comilla town said that they got employment in 2009, 2010 and this year by adopting unfair-means and dishonesty. They submitted fake citizenship and birth certificates and false orphanage certificates at respective recruitment centers during different tests which came to light recently. The investigation into the fraud was launched by Special cell under Police Super of respective districts and charges against them were proved. The action was taken upon recommendations made by the investigators through an office order which was made public on Tuesday. The sacked jail guards are: Saidur Rahman, Alamgir Hossain, Mohsin Mia, Didar Alam, Abul Kalam and Atikur Rahman of Teknaf upazila of Cox`s Bazaar, Main Uddin, Masikul Islam, Ismail Hossain and Neamul Maola of Ramu upazila, Billal Hossain, Delwar Hossain, Al Amin, Mohiuddin, Ali Ashraf, Aulad Hossain, Zakir Hossain and Abul Kalam of Sadar upazila and Sohel Rana of Chokoria upazila. DIG Prison Md Fazlur Rahman said they 19 prison guards fled from Comilla and Sylhet jails two days earlier after coming to know that charges against them had been proved and departmental action was being taken against them.
