KHULNA, June 13 (BSS): Noted economist Dr Abul Barakat said only the 1972 Constitution can ensure discrimination-free society while the country can get rid of communalism, fundamentalism and militancy.
Dr Barakat made the observation while speaking at a divisional seminar on "Culture of Injustice, Communalism, Fundamentalism and Militancy: Our Responsibility," organised by Bangladesh Economic Society (BES) at Government Women College auditorium at Boyra on Saturday.
BES president Prof Dr Ashraf Uddin Chowdhury presided over the seminar and general secretary Dr Zamal Uddin Ahmed delivered the welcome speech.
While presenting keynote paper at the seminar, Dr Abul Barakat, Professor of Economics Department of Dhaka University, stressed the need for setting up more International Crime Tribunals (ICTs) to complete trials of all the criminals who committed crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation.
He alleged that after killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975, the military government led by Ziaur Rahman distorted the constitution and changed its character through the 5th amendment, but later the High Court declared it null and void.
