1st death anniv of journo Mahbubul Alam today

The first death anniversary of Mahbubul Alam, former editor of The Independent, will be observed today (Saturday), says a press release.
A milad mahfil will be held at The Independent office today (Saturday) to mark his death anniversary. Another milad mahfil will be held at his village home in Munshiganj.
Also a former adviser to the caretaker government, Alam started his journalism career with Associated Press of Pakistan in 1957. Born in 1936 in Munshiganj, Alam went on retirement in 2013 after serving The Independent as the editor for 18 years.
Alam's career in journalism spanned over 50 years. He was the editor of the weekly Dialogue (1992-1995), chief editor and managing director of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (1987-1989), and editor of The New Nation (1986-1987).
In addition to his journalism career, Alam held various positions in the government.
Alam passed away at a city hospital on 6 June, 2014 at the age of 78.
