2 arrested for Farooqi murder

Police on Saturday morning arrested two people, including a woman, for their suspected involvement in the killing of Maulana Nurul Islam Farooqi, host of two popular religious programmes in two private television channels. The arrested are Mahmuda Khatun and Shariful Islam. On Wednesday evening, a gang of 6-7 miscreants stormed the Moghbazar house of Farooqi, presenter of ‘Kafela’, in ‘Channel i’, and killed him by slitting throat. Deputy Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman said that Mahmuda went to Farooqi’s house on the day he was killed and her movement was suspicious. On secret information, a special team of DMP’s Tejgaon division conducted a drive in Narayanganj’s Rupganj around 7.00am and arrested Mahmuda and Shariful, said Masudur Rahman. Farooqi was also the presenter of a regular programme in MyTV, according to UNB.
