Rescuers found no trace of four students of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), 20 hours after they went missing in the Bay off Saint Martin’s Island on Monday. Two AUST students drowned and the four went missing after a group of students went swimming off the coast of St Martin’s at Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar district yesterday. The four missing are Sabbir Hassan, Shahriar Rahman, Udoy Mahmud and Golam Rahim Rabby. Police and witnesses said local people rescued five drowning students and rushed them to the Upazila Health Complex, but two of them – Montizul Islam Evan and Saddam Hossain – died. Three others – ‘Faisal’, ‘Farhan’ and ‘Asif’ - have been shifted to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital as their condition deteriorated. Navy, police, Coast Guard and fire brigade divers were searching for Sabbir, Shahriar, Udoy and Rabby in the sea but they could not trace the quartet till Tuesday morning. Thirty-four students from AUST’s computer science department came to the island and checked into local ‘Senjun Hotel’. However, it is not yet clear whether they arrived in the tourist destination on an excursion or for holiday, according to bdnews24.com.
