Two Bangladesh nationals have been arrested at Hasnabad Bus Stand in North 24-Parganas district in India’s West Bengal state on charge of carrying fake currencies. Indian police said they held Saddam Hossain Sardar and Farooq Hossain Sardar, aged around 30-32, on Tuesday on the basis of an intelligence tip-off. Police said they also recovered Rs 60,000 in counterfeit notes from them. Both were booked under the Foreigners Act. They have been remanded to police custody for a week after being produced in Basirhat court on Wednesday afternoon. Police said during interrogation, they learnt that Saddam and Farooq are residents of Debhata Upazula of Satkhira district of Bangladesh. They allegedly crossed the Ghojadanga border near Basirhat three or four days back. Additional SP (N 24-Parganas) Bhaskar Mukherjee said a team from Hasnabad police station raided the bus stand around 7.30pm and caught the two with the fake Indian currencies, according to a news agency.
