Friday, 8 August 2014

A construction accident has claimed the lives of two Bangladeshi labourers at a worksite in northern Bahrain. Bahraini Interior Ministry identified the victims as Billal Hossain, 32, and Younus Sikder, 37, according to a report in a local newspaper, the Daily Tribune. The incident took place on Thursday at the Muharraq Governorate, the report said. The workers were killed on the spot after stored concrete blocks fell on them at a ready-mix concrete plant in Hidd. A crane carrying a five-tonne piece of concrete accidentally hit the stored concrete blocks which in turn fell on the workers, the preliminary investigations revealed. Quoting sources, the Daily Tribune said Billal and Younus were working illegally in Bahrain. Both victims were working with expired visas for different employers, the report said. The newspaper said the Bahraini Labour Ministry had immediately suspended the work at the site until it completes an investigation there. The Bangladeshi embassy in Manama could not be reached for information, according to bdnews24.com.
