2 BGB men die in Khagrachhari grenade blast

A grenade explosion in Khagrachhari left two Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) personnel dead and four others injured on Sunday. Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station’s OC Mizanur Rahman said one powerful grenade went off with a big bang in the morning during a regular training exercise of the BGB 16 Battalion at the Khagrachhari Cantonment. The deceased were identified as Nayek Subedar Abul Kashem and Sepoy ‘Hasan’. Four others injured in the explosion were sent to the Combined Military Hospital in Chittagong, said OC Rahman. They are Nayek Subedar Masud Rana, Lance Nayek Nasirul Islam, Lance Nayek ‘Siraj’ and Captain Dr Taiful Islam. BGB 16 Battalion sources said Nayek Subedar Kashem was conducting the training and Sepoy Hasan was one of the trainees. The casualties occurred when a grenade exploded suddenly, he added. In Feb this year, two army men and four BGB personnel died after a mortar shell exploded during a training session at Shaheed Salauhddin Cantonment at Tangail’s Ghatail. The explosion had left ten others injured, according to a news agency.
