2 burnt, 50 shops gutted in market fire

A devastating fire broke out at a market in Maijdee Court area of Noakhali town on Monday morning burning down its 50 shops. Two firefighters were injured in the fire which originated from an unknown source at Maijdee Hawkers’ Market around 3:45 am, said Humayun Kabir, station officer of Maijdee Fire Station. He said the fire burning down almost 50 out of 300 shops in the market. On information, five fire fighting units from Maijdee, Chaumuhuni and Sonaimuri fire stations rushed in and doused the flames after almost two hours of frantic efforts with the help of local people at 6:00pm. Two fire fighters were received serious burn injuries while extinguishing the blaze. Several shops of adjoining Momin Shopping Complex and Chandni Super Market were also damaged in the incident, according to UNB.
