2 BWDB engineers arrested in Barisal

BARISAL, Oct 9 (UNB): The Anti-corruption Commi-ssion (ACC) Barisal office Wednesday arrested two engineers of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) for misappropriating public funds.
The arrested were identified as Sub-assistant Engineers of BWDB Barisal M Babul Akhter (44) and M Abdul Barek (51).
MH Rahamatullah, sub Assistant Director of Barisal ACC and investigation officer of the case, said Babul Akhter and Abdul Barek were arrested for misappropriating Tk 0.45 million (Tk 4.50 lakh) during the 2004-05 fiscal showing false project documents.
Earlier, ACC collected information about the ill-gotten wealth of the two accused and filed a case against them with Bakerganj police station on February 28, 2008.
On Wednesday afternoon, ACC called them at its Barisal office to discuss their case but later they were arrested.
When they were produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, the court sent the two engineers to jail rejecting their bail prayers in the evening.
