2 devotees die at Ijtema ground in Tongi

Two devotees died of old age complications on Biswa Ijtema ground in Tongi of Gazipur district early Friday, a couple of hours before the second phase of the second largest Muslim congregation got underway with religious sermons after Fajr prayers. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. Dhaka Deputy Commissioner’s control room sources said of the deceased, one hailing from Comilla died at No. 13 ‘Khittah’ (the spot on the Ijtema ground marked for each district) while another from Noakhali died at No. 22 ‘Khittah’. The second part of the annual rituals organised by Tablig Jamaat began in the morning on the bank of Turag River in Tongi town on the outskirts of Dhaka city. It will end with Akheri Munajat (final prayers) on Sunday afternoon, according to UNB.
