2 die in Dhaka ‘gunfight’

Two suspected kidnappers succumbed to gunshot wounds, received during a ‘gunfight’ with RAB on Sunday. The victims have been identified as ‘Asim’, 50 and ‘Sangram’, 45. RAB-10 commander Lt Col Khandaker Golam Sarowar said the skirmish took place around Monday noon at the city’s Kadamtali area, which also left three members of the elite force injured. Acting on a tip that several abducted people were being held at a house there, RAB personnel went to Kadamtali area, he said. “The kidnappers opened fire when they saw RAB personnel,” Sarowar claimed. “RAB fired back in retaliation and during the encounter three of our men and two others were hit by bullets.” He said three abducted people had been rescued from the house.
