2 die in Gazipur truck-microbus collision

An expatriate Bangladeshi man who returned from Dubai and his son was killed in a road accident in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur district on Friday evening. Four of their relatives and the microbus driver were injured in the accident. Gorai Highway Police Station OC Md Humayun Kabir said the accident took place near the railway bridge at Goalbathan in Kaliakoir. Sabuj Mia, 35, of Devichhaol village of Akkelpur Upazila in Jaypurhat and his son Sajal Hossain, 10, are the dead. Mia’s wife Manika Begum, 30, son Shanto Hossain, 7, sister Sathi Akter, 25, and her husband Muklesur Rahman, 36, and the driver of the microbus Masud Rana, 35, were injured. Mia flew back from the UAE city of Dubai on Friday afternoon and was heading towards village home with his relatives, OC Md Humayun Kabir said. An oncoming goods-hauling truck hit the microbus when it reached west side of the railway bridge at Goalbathan on Dhaka-Tangail Highway. Kabir said Mia and Hossain died at Kumudini Hospital in Tangail after locals took them there. The injured were rescued and rushed to a local hospital, according to a news agency.
