2 ex-BNP MPs held in city

Police picked up former BNP MPs Asharafuddin Nizan and Nazimuddin Ahmed from the city's Motijheel area Wednesday, report agencies.
BNP Chairperson's media wing member Shamsuddin Didar said a team of Motijheel than police picked up the two BNP leaders around 1:50 pm when they went to the office of Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) to meet its president Kader Siddique who was holding a sit-in programme in front of the office.
Former MPs from Lakhshmipur Ashrafuddin Nijan and Najim Uddin Ahmed were whisked away by law enforces while they were leaving after meeting Kader Siddiqui, police said.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman confirmed of the arrests, but could not give a reason for it.
Police have been conducting raid in different parts of the country including Dhaka and arresting BNP-Jamaat activists for their alleged involvement in violence and sabotage.
To bring an end to the violence caused by the BNP-Jamaat alliance's blockade and shutdown, Kader Siddiqui has been asking the leaders of both Awami League and BNP to take initiative.
Another report adds: A Dhaka court on the day placed BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on a five-day fresh remand in an arson case filed with Jatrabari police station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M Rezaul Karim passed the order when sub-inspector Zahidul Islam of Detective Branch (DB) and also the investigation officer of the case produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer on expiry of his three-day remand in another arson case.
The court also turned down a bail petition filed by Rizvi's counsel Sanaullah Miah.
