2 ex-T&T engineers get 10 years jail for misappropriating Tk6.4m

Chittagong Special Divisional court in a verdict Wednesday awarded two former T&T engineers to 10 years imprisonment for misappropriating Tk6.4 million through cheque fraudulence.
Judge Mir Ruhul Amin delivered the verdict convicting former divisional engineer Kamrul Hasan and his assistant Mohammad Hossain, court sources said.
The then Bureau of Anti Corruption during an investigation found that Kamrul Hasan and his assistant Mohammad Hossain misappropriated Tk6.4 million through fraudulence of bank cheques from May 10 to August 9 of 1993.
AK M Nurul Huda, inspector of the then Bureau of Anti Corruption on Oct 30, 1999, filed a case against former divisional engineer Kamrul Hasan and his assistant Mohammad Hossain on charges of misappropriating Tk6.4m through fraudulence means.
The court framed charges against them on May 30, 2013 and delivered the verdict after examining 7 witnesses out of 22.
The court also fined them Tk3.2 million, in default to suffer one year more imprisonment.
The court ordered deputy magistrate of Chittagong to realize the money from his wealth. The accused persons were absent while delivering the verdict.
