Two suspected robbers were killed in a ‘gun battle’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel at Sundarbans East Zone in Satkhira on Tuesday. RAB-8 identified the deceased as Enamul Hawlader, alias Daroga, 34, and ‘Saiful’, 24. RAB-8 sources said being tipped off, a RAB-8 team conducted a drive near Arubaria canal in Andharmanik under Chapai Range on the east side of the Sundarbans. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the members of a forest bandit group ‘Daroga Bahini’ opened fire on RAB members, who retaliated, triggering a ‘gun battle’. Enamul Hawlader, the head of ‘Daroga Bahini’ and his associate ‘Saiful’ were killed in the line of fire, RAB-8 sources said. RAB-8 Deputy Commander Maj Adnan Kabir said 13 foreign and locally made firearms along with five sharp weapons were recovered from the spot, according to a news agency.
