CHATTOGRAM, Apr 07: Two ships carrying a total of 51,000 tonnes of octane and furnace oil from Malaysia are set to arrive at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port on Wednesday, a move expected to ease the ongoing fuel crisis in the country.
The two vessels -- MT Central Star and MT Eastern Queens -- are transporting the fuel oil under the supervision of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
Both the vessels are scheduled to reach the port on the night of April 8, after which unloading operations will begin, said Assistant Manager (Public Relations) of BPC Farzin Hasan Moumita.
According to BPC sources, MT Central Star is carrying 26,000 tonnes of refined octane while MT Eastern Queens is transporting around 25,000 tonnes of furnace oil.
Meanwhile, four additional large vessels carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and gas oil arrived at Chittagong Port on Monday evening.
These ships are currently anchored at the port, with unloading already underway, according to the Marine Department of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA).
CPA Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said priority is being given to swift unloading of fuel cargoes to maintain a steady supply and ensure uninterrupted power generation.
Officials expressed hope that all vessels will be unloaded within the stipulated timeframe, helping stabilise the country's energy supply situation.
