2 get life term for gang-rape of Ctg girl

A Chittagong court on Sunday sentenced two people to life term imprisonment each in a case filed for gang raping a girl in Boalkhali Upzila in 1998. The lifers were identified as M Jasim, son of late Abdul Jabbar of Pashchim Gomdandi village in Boalkhali upazila, and Didarul Alam, son of late Osi Miah of the same village. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred when the victim, of Pashchim Gomdandi village of Mirsarai Upazila, went to visit her sister’s house at Pashchim Gomdandi village in Boalkhali Upazila on March 23 in 1998. Four youths – Jasim, Didarul, Bashar and Mafizur – stormed into the victim’s sister’s house at night on the day and ganged-raped the girl overnight after confining her sister and brother-in-law to a room. On March 27, the victim filed a case against the four with Boalkhali Police Station. Police submitted a charge sheet against the four accused to a court in September on the same year. Two other accused – Bashar and Mafizur – died when the trial was going on. After examining 15 witnesses and documents, Judge of Chittagong Women and Children Repression Prevention tribunal-1 M Rejaul Karim pronounced the verdict, according to a news agency.
