2 girls rescued, 2 human traffickers held

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel rescued two girls while they were being trafficked away and arrested two suspected human traffickers from Link Road in Cox’s Bazar town on Sunday. The arrestees were identified as Puja Haldar, 18, daughter of Atul Halder, a resident of Lakshminagar area of Delhi, India, and Lakshmi Mohonta, 60, daughter of late Anil Mohonta of Pundroli in Dakshin Dinajpur district of India’s West Bengal state. Company commander of Rab-7 Major Ahmed Hossain Mohiuddin at press briefing said being tipped off, a team of Rab-7 launched a drive in Link Road area around 4pm and arrested Puja Haldar and Lakshmi Mohonta. Then the elite force rescued the two girls, both Bangladesh citizens, also from the area. Quoting the two victims, Major Mohiuddin said they were being taken to Delhi with the assurance of jobs that pay Tk 40,000 per month. He also noted that in the primary interrogation, the alleged human traffickers confessed the two girls were being taken to Lakshminagar of Delhi, according to a news agency.
