The brother of main accused in Mirzapur arson case has been arrested. Mirzapur Police Station OC Golam Mustafa said they had arrested prime suspect Jahangir's brother Abu Hanif from Baliyazan area on Tuesday. Earlier, a case was filed naming Jahangir as prime suspect for burning a woman and her three daughters to death in Sohagpara area. The house of expatriate Majibur Rahman went up in flames in Sohagpara under Mirzapur Upazila in Tangail on Tuesday. His wife Hasna Begum, 30, and three daughters – 'Mariam', 18, 'Mili', 4, and 'Meem', 6 – were burnt to death. Police and locals suspect the house was set on fire after sprinkling petrol following the spurning of a marriage proposal. They said neighbour Baharuddin's son Jahangir had been proposing to marry Majib’s eldest daughter Mariam for a while. ‘After the proposal was rejected, we feel angry members of Jahangir’s family may have set fire to the house,’ they said. Hasna Begum’s brother Md Mofazzal Hossain filed the case with the police station naming 'Jahangir' as the prime suspect. OC Golam Mustafa said they had arrested Jahangir's brother Abu Hanif from the Upazila’s Baliyazan on Tuesday night. Earlier, police had nabbed one Ali Hossain over the incident. Hossain has confessed that he was paid Tk 200 to fetch two containers of petrol and did deliver them to Jahangir's house, according to a news agency.
