2 held with 9 kg gold at Ctg airport

Customs officials in separate incidents arrested two persons along with 84 gold bars, weighing 9.079 kg, at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong on Wednesday. The arrested were identified as Mohammad Ismail and Mohammad Sohel, both residents of Rauzan upazila in the district. Mashiur Rahman Mondal, assistant commissioner (customs) at the airport, said a flight of Fly Dubai landed at the airport from Dubai around 6:45pm. Being tipped-off, a team of customs officials searched the baggage of Sohel and recovered 60 gold bars from inside four electric irons at the luggage. Later, they arrested Sohel. In another incident, customs officials conducted a drive at a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane that landed at the airport from Jeddah around 3:30pm, said Nahid Naushad Mukul, assistant commissioner (customs). After searching the plane, they recovered 24 gold bars weighing 2.079 kg from beneath the seat of Ismail, and arrested him, according to a news agency.
