2 hurt as oil-tanker catches fire in Mongla

BAGERHAT: Two crewmembers of an oil-tanker were seriously injured when the tanker caught fire at Mongla Port early Saturday.
The injured were identified as Moslem, 45, and Moslem, 35. They rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors referred them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment, according to a news agency.
Port sources said the fire originated at the oil-tanker ‘MT Zaka’, anchored on the Pashur Channel within one-kilometre of the port jetty, from its engine room around 3am.
Mongla Port Authority chairman Commodore HR Bhuiyan told UNB that three rescue ships, including ‘MV Agniprahari;, rushed to the spot around 3:30am.
The firefighters were able to douse the fire around 6am, he said.
The port authority has formed a four-member inquiry committee to look into the fire incident.
