2 injured in \\\'gunfight\\\' with cops

Two people sustained bullet injuries during a ‘gunfight’ between a gang of ‘miscreants’ and the members of Detective Branch (DB) of police at Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila on Thursday. One of the injured was identified as Md Yunus. Police claimed that he is a gangster. Nasim Miah, assistant superintendent of police, said tipped off that a gang of ‘terrorists’ was preparing to commit crime at Jamirtali village, a team of detective launched a drive at Jamirtali village at dead of night. Sensing the presence of the police, the gangsters opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight. Police exchanged 18 rounds of bullet during the gunfight, leaving Yunus and another member of the terrorists’ gang bullet injured. Five policemen – assistant sub-inspector Mahe Alam and four constables including Abu Sufian, Nazmul Hasan, Bahar Uddin and Jahirul Islam – were also injured in the gunfight, Nasim Miah said. A light gun was recovered from the spot, he claimed, according to a news agency.
