2 Jamaat leaders arrested

Two local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami were arrested in Sirajganj on Tuesday night on charge of vandalism. The arrestees are Ariful Islam Sohel, 40, secretary of Sirajganj’s Belkuchi upazila unit of Jamaat and son of late Abdul Bari of Haat Kandapara village of the upazila, and Shahjahan Ali, Ameer of Ullapara upazila unit of Jamaat and vice-chairman candidate in the on-going upazila elections. Ullapara Police Station’s officer-in-charge Tajul Islam said on secret information, a team raided the house of Salap union parishad chairman Shahidul Islam and picked up Sohel. Meanwhile, police of Sadar Police Station conducting another raid arrested Shahjahan Ali from Jail Gate area immediately after his release from prison on bail at night. Police said both were held in connection with cases filed for attacking cops, obstructing them from performing duties and vandalising vehicles, according to UNB.
