2 JMB men sentenced to death

A Dhaka court on Wednesday awarded death sentence to two activists of banned outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) for shooting dead a man during a police search. Judge of 4th Speedy Trial Tribunal Court, Dhaka, ABM Nazmul Haque gave the verdict in 2006 firing case in Tangail district. The convicts are Mohammad Saiful Islam and Abdur Rahman Fahad alias Alal. Public Prosecutor Taslima Yasmeen Dipa said that both men were members of the JMB. On Dec 29, 2006, the two fired at police during a search operation on a bus they were in. It left police informant Joynal Abedin dead and inspector Abdur Rab injured. The case documents state that the men, posing as passengers, were transporting a huge amount of explosives in the bus, according to bdnews24.com.
