2 journos get bail in case filed for probing alleged RHD corruption

Two journalists have been granted bail in an extortion case filed by an official of the Roads and Highways Division (RHD) for investigating charges of corruption. They are Sanjay Kumar Das, bdnews24.com’s Patuakhali correspondent, and Md Jalil, Maasranga Television’s correspondent of the same district. Judge of Patuakhali District and Sessions Judge’s Court Bimal Krishna Sikder granted them bail after a hearing on Tuesday. The court of Patuakhali's Judicial Magistrate Tapan Kumar Dey had, on August 19, rejected their anticipatory bail petitions and sent them to jail in a case filed by Patuakhali RHD Sub-Assistant Engineer Md Hasan Al-Mamun with Patuakhali Sadar Police Station on April 25. He filed the case against Das, Jalil and five other unidentified people after a report was carried on May 8 on the webpage of an online newspaper and news agency on embezzlement of money through auction irregularities allegedly by Patuakhali RHD, according to bdnews24.com.
