HABIGANJ, Oct 9 (UNB) - Two people were killed and at least 30 others injured in a clash between two groups of villagers at Bejura village in Madhabpur upazila on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Rina Begum, 18, daughter of Khurshed Ali and Jalal Mia, 65, residents of the village.
Quoting locals, police said Hadayetullah, president of Madhabpur upazila Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, and Arzu Member, vice president of the upazila unit of BNP, had long been at loggerheads over establishing dominance in the area.
The pent-up mood exploded when two children of the village fought with each other over a trifling matter.
As a sequel to the matter, both groups, equipped with local weapons, swooped on each other around 11:30 am triggering a fierce clash that left Rina and Jalal dead on the spot and over 30 injured.
