2 killed, 40 injured in road mishap

MUNSHIGANJ, Nov 10 (UNB): Two persons were killed and 40 others injured Monday when a bus ran off the road into a roadside ditch at Bausia on Dhaka-Chittagong highway under Gazaria Upazila.
Police said the accident occurred as the driver of a capital-bound bus coming from Matlab in Chandpur lost control over steering at about 8:15 am.
The deceased was identified as Sahana Akhter (14) and Sultana Akhter (14), class VIII students of Bausia MA Azhar High School, who were on way to school. They died on the spot and 40 bus passengers were injured.
However, the driver and helper of the bus of Bakil Paribahan were unhurt as they jumped out of the vehicle.
After the accident agitated local people set fire to a bus and damaged another one on the highway snapping road communication for an hour.
