At least two people were killed and 25 others injured as two inter-city trains collided head-on in Ullahpra in Sirajganj district on Sunday. The dead are Altaf, 25, of Harishpur of Natore district and Majibar Rahman, 25, of Lalmonirhat district. Witnesses said when Lalmonirhat-bound train ‘Lalmoni Express’ was waiting at Ullahpara rail station, Dhaka-bound ‘Ekota Express train’ from Dinajpur crashed into it around 3:30 am, leaving around 30 passengers of both trains injured. Among the injured, two people died at the upazila health complex while the others were rushed to Bogra Medical College Hospital. Railway police sources said the collision occurred as the driver of Ekota Express train drove the train on the same line due to wrong signal. Seven compartments veered off the tracks following the accident, suspending Dhaka’s train communications with North Bengal and Khulna, according to UNB.
