2 killed in clashes in 2 Natore upazilas

At least two people, including a woman, were beaten to death in two separate clashes in Baratipara and Baraigram upazilas of Natore on Friday night and early Saturday. The dead are Yeasin Ali, 60, village head of Koichar village in Baratipara, and Ambia Begum, wife of Afal Uddin, a resident of Atghoria village in Baraigram. Quoting locals, police said widow Raihana, a resident of Koichar village, had extramarital relationship with Saiful Islam, a resident of the same village. Dispute over the issue was to be settled at local arbitration on Friday night. As discord arouse over where to arrange the arbitration, Yeasin started for home being angry and at one stage, Raihana’s men attacked him around 10:30pm. The attackers beat up the village head mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot. Away in Baraigram upazila, a woman was beaten to death in a clash between two groups of people of two villagers of two adjoining upazilas over previous enmity at Atghoria village early Saturday. Police said on Friday night, Shafi, a resident of Kadirabad village in Bagatipara upazila, along with his men attacked the house of Afal Uddin, a resident of Atghoria village, and beat Chand Mohammad and Sabuj, sons of Afal. At one stage, the attackers beat Ambia, mother of Chand Mohammad and Sabuj, as she resisted them, leaving her critically injured. Ambia was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injures early Saturday, according to UNB.
