2 killed in Lalmonirhat clash

Two people were killed and 10 others injured in a clash between supporters of two brothers over a land dispute at Patikapara village in Kaliganj upazila on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Abul Kashem, 65, son of late Alimuddin, and Mojibar Rahman, son of Mamtaj Ali of the village.
Witnesses said there had been a longstanding dispute between Khaleque and Malek over occupying a piece a land owned by their mother.
On Tuesday morning, a clash ensued between both the groups when they went to reap paddy on the disputed land around 9am.
A chase and counter-chase took place during the melee that left 11 people injured.
Supporters of Khaleque chopped Kashem with sharp weapons when he stepped in to quell the feuding groups, leaving him dead on the spot.
The injured were first rushed to Kaliganj upazila health complex from where Mojibar was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital following deterioration of his condition. He, however, died at the hospital later.
Confirming the incident, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station Sohrab Hossain they arrested seven people in this connection, according to UNB.
