2 killed in Rangpur \\\'shootout\\\'

Two alleged robbers were killed and another was injured in a shootout during a drive by the members of a law-enforcement agency in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur on Friday. The dead are Anwar Hossain, 30, hailed from Madaripur district and Ripon Mia, 35, of Mymensingh district. Police said when a gang of robbers swooped on a petrol pump on Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Sathibari area on Friday morning a patrol team of police challenged them. At one stage, the bandits fired gunshots at police prompting the law enforcers to fire back in self-defence, triggering a shootout. Anwar Hossain and Ripon Mia were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while another unidentified robber received bullet injuries. He was rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Three robbers were arrested from the spot. A pistol and cash Tk 100,000 were also recovered from them, according to UNB.
