BAGERHAT, Jan 9: Two alleged forest robbers were killed in a 'gunfight' with members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Shimanarkhal under the east range of the Sundarbans in Mongla upazila on Friday morning. One of the deceased was identified as Sagir, second-in-command of the notorious robber gang 'Daroga Bahini', while the identity of the other could not be known immediately. Tipped off, a team of RAB-8, stationed in Barisal, led by its Commanding Officer Colonel Faridul Alam, launched a drive to arrest 'Daroga Bahini' members in Marapashu area of the Sundarbans on Thursday night. Sensing presence of the elite force, the robbers opened fire on the RAB members, prompting them to retaliate around 6:30 am, triggering the gunfight, Colonel Faridul Alam said.
