2 killed over cricket match in Laxmipur

LAXMIPUR, May 19 (UNB): Two people were killed and five others injured in a clash over a cricket match in Hajipara area of Sadar upazila Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as Abu Noman, vice-president of Chandraganj union unit of Chhatra League and son of Abu Sufian of Bhairabnagar village and Jahangir Alam, a local activist of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal and son of Chowdhury Mia of Panchpara village of the upazila.
Police said an altercation took place between two groups over a cricket match involving Amani Laxmipur village and Basudouhita village of the upazila Sunday afternoon.
As a sequel to the altercation, both the groups exchanged gunshots in a clash at around 8:00 pm, leaving Noman dead and six bullet-hit on the spot.
The injured Shafique Ullah and Mamun were rushed to different hospitals in Laxmipur and Noakhali and Jahangir Alam succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital.
Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident and said the body of Noman was recovered from the spot and sent to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
