2 killed over land dispute

Two persons have been killed as rival groups clashed over a land dispute in Naogaon district. The incident took place in Ujanpur village in Badalgachhi Upazila. Clashes broke out after a negotiation between Shahidul Islam and his neighbour Hasan Ali over a piece of land broke down, Naogaon Sadar Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahfuz Afzal said. Hasan’s supporters attacked Shahidul and his accomplices with sharp weapons, leaving three injured. Shahidul, 50, died on his way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Amzad Hossain, 35, died in the hospital. Another injured man, Abdul Wadul, 18, is in a critical condition. Angry local people vandalised and set fire to five houses of those belonging to the Hasan group in protest against the deaths, Badalgachhi Police Station OC Md Azizul Haque said, according to bdnews24.com.
