Two local leaders of Awami League (AL) have been killed in separate incidents in Lakshmipur district. The deceased were identified as Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, president of Charshahi union unit of Awami League and resident of Rampur village under Sadar Upazila, and Abdul Mazid, general secretary of the Ward unit of AL in Charpata union of Raipur upazila. In Sadar upazila, miscreants slaughtered Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan at Rampur village early Thursday. Anjumara Begum, wife of slain Abdul Mannan, said criminals had been threatening her husband with death over mobile phone for 15 days. A group of people called Mazid out of his house over phone on Wednesday midnight. As Mazid did not return home even after a long time, the family members began searching him and at one stage, spotted the slaughtered body of Mazid in front of the house early in the morning. On the other hand, the body of another AL leader Abdul Mazid was found at Charpata in Raipur Upazila, also in the morning. Officer-in-charge of Raipur Police Station Manjurul Haque Akanda said local people found Mazid’s body at Charpata village in the morning and informed police. The law enforcers recovered the body and sent it to a local hospital for autopsy, according to a news agency.
