Two people were killed in a 'shootout' between Rab personnel and a group of 'drug traders' near Naf River at Teknaf Upazila in Cox's Bazar district on Sunday, hardly 48 hours after three alleged smugglers were killed and another injured by bullets in a similar ‘gunfight’ with the law enforcers at the same Upazila. Rab identified them as Jahid Hossain Jaku, 43, son of Abedin Saodagar of Kayukh Khalipara and Faridul Alam, 42, son of Shamsul Haq of Naikhangpara of Teknaf. Rab and police claimed the duo was known as close aides of local Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Bodi. Teknaf thana officer-in charge Ranjit Kumar Barua said the 'shootout' took place between a group of Yaba traders and Rab-BGB near Nesar Park around 4:00am that left Jaku and Faridul dead on the spot. Rab said they recovered 2000 Yaba tablets, 2 LGs, 1 pipegun, and 10 rounds of bullet from the spot after Sunday's shootout. Meanwhile, two people, also known as close aides of MP Bodi, who were abducted from Teknaf border area on Saturday, could not be traced till Sunday morning. The victims were identified as Nur Mohammad, alias Lastrip, 27, general secretary of ward-7 Jubo League of Teknaf Municipality, and his brother-in-law Salman, 22. They are residents of Uttar Aliabad village under the municipality. Their family members alleged that Rab personnel picked up Nur Mohammad and Salman, an allegation the elite force denied. The dead are Amim Majhi, 50, of Shah Parir Island, Zahir Ahmed, 35, of Pahartali in the district town, and Mohammad Kalu, 37, of Golokghata village in Maheshkhali upazila, according to a news agency.
