Two alleged muggers were shot and wounded as police fired gunshot while they were fleeing after snatching in the city’s Dhanmondi area on Monday. The arrested are Saidur Rahman, 28, and Sourav, 38. Police said Saidur and Sourav coming in a private car snatched a vanity bag from a couple at Kalabagan when they were waiting for a bus there around 6:30am. Being informed, a police team chased the private car carrying the muggers and put up barricade at Shankar in Dhanmondi in a bid to arrest them. Challenged, the muggers hurled bomb like substances at police, who opened fire in self defence, leaving Saidur and Sourav injured with bullets. They were first rushed to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Two police constables – Tapan Kumar and Shah Alam – were also injured and hospitalised, according to a news agency.
