2 policemen caught while mugging in city

Pedestrians with the help of local people detained two police personnel allegedly for their attempt to mug a man near Matshya Bhaban under Shahbagh Police Station in the city on Monday. The accused police men were identified as Constable Nur Alam and Constable Mijanur Rahman. Witnesses said two police were mugging a passerby near Matshya Bhaban in the afternoon.  At one stage, the victim raised a hue and cry. Hearing scream for help, local people and pedestrians came to the rescue of the victim. Angered by the incident they caught the two cops and beat them up. Later, they handed constables Nur Alam and Mijanur Rahman to the Shahbagh police. Expressing an instant reaction to the incident, victim Arafat said this paints the worst possible picture of the police. Not that all are bad, but this glaring event has put police corruption and misdeeds in the limelight,’ he added. When contacted, Assistant Commissioner of Ramna Zone said departmental steps would be taken against them, according to a news agency.
