2 RMG workers killed in road crashes

Two garment workers were killed in separate road accidents in Gazipur city and Sreepur upazila on Tuesday. Police and witnesses said Nosimon, a worker of Design Tex Sweater Factory at Konabari in the city and wife of Abdul Jalil of Lalmonirhat district was killed as a bus smashed her rickshaw around 8am while going to the factory. Mazhar, 26, operator of Vintage Bashundhara Denimex at Gargaria Masterbari in Sreepur, died as a bus knocked him down near his factory at the same time. Meanwhile, garment workers blocked road protesting the death of the fellows in both the cases. In the city, the aggrieved garment workers put barricade on the Dhaka-Tangail highway at Konabari when they vandalised at least 50 vehicles. They also engaged in a clash with police when they tried to pacify the workers. Later, the law enforcers fired 20-25 teargas shells and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control. In Sreepur, the garment workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for one hour protesting the death of Mazhar, according to a news agency.
