Wednesday, 8 October 2014

Two persons have been killed in what the law enforcers describe as an 'encounter' in the Sundarbans at Bagerhat. The victims, claimed to be robbers by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), have been identified as 'Raju', 25, and 'Jakir', 30. RAB-8 deputy commander Major Adnan Kabir said that a 'gunfight' on Wednesday morning in the eastern division of the forest's Mrigomari Canal left the two dead. "RAB raided the area around 8.30 am on a tip-off that 15-20 members of the Awal Gang had gathered there. Sensing the presence of the RAB members, the robbers opened fire and the RAB. "The robbers retreated after the gunfight that lasted half an hour. The bullet-hit bodies were found after searching the area," said the RAB officer. Seven firearms, over a hundred rounds of ammunitions and a few sharp weapons have been recovered from the spot, he added. On Oct 15, thirteen robbers were killed in an encounter in the same area, claimed police, according to bdnews24.com.
